This email and note was sent home Friday from Superintendent Olsen. I think it is very important as many parents as possible turn out for this.

I also think it is really very important that all school families send representation as she specifically is talking about the whole Citadel High Family of schools. These discussions will affect every one of our schools.

A key point is that DOE has OFFICIALLY, finally, put a hold on new construction until 2011 in the South End. This is the victory we were looking for!

Dear Parent/Guardians,
In March, I wrote to you providing an update on the Halifax Regional School Board’s capital planning process and our future plans for community consultation.
Last week, I received confirmation from the Department of Education that any capital project in the south end will be on hold until at least 2011. This will allow us to undertake an extensive consultation with all school communities on the Halifax peninsula to determine how we can best meet the future educational needs of our students.
The consultation will begin in September 2007 and will involve all schools in the Citadel High Family of Schools. If you wish to learn more about the strategy and our public consultation plans, please attend the following information session:

Thursday, June 14, 2007
7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
St. Patrick’s High School Auditorium
6067 Quinpool Road

We all know a school is a place that enables learning for all students, a place where young minds are inspired and futures are shaped. Together, I believe we are close to having a process in place that can be a model, not only in our region but for the entire province.
Thank you for your support,
Carole Olsen
Superintendent
