In the Herald today:
“Regional councillors rejected a recommendation Tuesday that would have seen taxation powers put in the hands of Nova Scotia school boards for extra program funding.
Council threw out a recommendation from a committee of regional councillors, Halifax regional school board representatives and Nova Scotia MLAs. The committee recommended the province change legislation to allow boards to levy an amount, up to a maximum of 10 per cent of the previous year’s overall school board budget, for education services considered above and beyond those of the public school system.”
